Reportages: Jijiga somali refugee camps

Ethiopia's fortunes are intimately intertwined with those of its troubled neighbour Somalia. For the past two years its army has intervened in some parts of Somalia militarily, while at home Ethiopia has offered shelter to thousands of Somali refugees.

A programme of voluntary repatriation between 1997 and 2005 meant that camps like Aw Barre, near Jijiga were shut down. But renewed violence in Somalia has reversed that process. The numbers of those seeking protection in Ethiopia has topped 30,000. There are now three camps Kebribeyah, Aw Barre and Sheder.
